| Immortal Friendship
Located on a ten foot wide ledge in a remote canyon in southern
Utah, this rock art exemplifies an unusual style. Before each face was painted,
the rock surface was thoroughly smoothed. It is possible that the five individuals
comprising this scene may have known each other. Below the paintings and
behind the boulders are several metates (smoothed and rounded stones used
for grinding corn), possibly indicating that this was a communal work area. |
