| Painted Canyon
Originally formed as an aeolian deposit of sand 200 million years
ago, this sandstone wall has been carved only during the past 10,000 years
by water. The colors form from two minerals containing iron (red) and copper
(blue) in combination with the reflected sunlight reaching deep into this
northern Arizona slot canyon. |
