| The Wave
Viewing upward in a deep, narrow canyon called a slot canyon,
this colorful sandstone formation in northern Arizona results from sudden
flash floods that reach depths of 50 feet or more in minutes. The colors
are natural and result from the differential absorption of sunlight as it
bounces dozens of times off the walls before penetrating to the great depths
of this canyon. |
